Nathan Jones drops hint about former Luton Town centre-back – as two other players hope to earn Charlton Athletic deals

NATHAN Jones said Dan Potts would be a “wonderful acquisition” after the defender features in a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Friday afternoon.

Chuks Aneke gave the Addicks a first-half lead in Beckenham before former Charlton loan attacker Jes Rak-Sakyi equalised in the last minute.

Potts came on for the last 30 minutes. Jones worked with 30-year-old Potts over two spells at Luton Town. Potts was released by the Hatters this summer.

Danny Hylton, who also played for Jones at Luton, and former Ipswich Town and Lincoln City midfielder Teddy Bishop saw action against Palace as they hope to secure deals.

“We’re looking for a left-sided centre-half,” Jones said. “Dan Potts has done fantastically well for me, he’s had one, two, three, four promotions maybe, he’s played in the Premier League.

“The pedigree is there. It’s just about making sure we can get enough of what we need out of him.

“It’s not a trial, he’s just come in to train with us. He’s having a look at us, we’re having a look at him. If Dan’s fit and ready to go he’s a wonderful acquisition.

“We’ll just have to see.”
