Almas Art Foundation is pleased to present KHARTOUM from MEMORY: The Life and Art of T. S. Ahmed (1933–2015), an exhibition of selected paintings and prints, on view from 26 March to 16 May 2026 in London. Open and free to enter Monday – Saturday 11am – 6pm.

This exhibition forms part of Almas Art Foundation’s ongoing Sudan programme, which has sought to highlight the depth, resilience and cultural significance of Sudanese artistic practice during a time of ongoing conflict.

The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore the life and work of T. S. Ahmed, an overlooked pioneer of modern art in Africa and the Middle East. A contemporary of David Hockney at the Royal College of Art, Ahmed graduated in 1962 with a Silver Medal for Excellence and gained early recognition in London before continuing his career across Sudan, East Africa, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Featuring rare prints from the Royal College of Art archives alongside significant paintings from the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts and private collections, the exhibition brings renewed attention to Ahmed’s remarkable yet under-recognised legacy.

The exhibition coincides with the launch of KHARTOUM from MEMORY by Fathi Osman, the first publication dedicated to documenting Ahmed’s life and work.

This project has been made possible in part through the support of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC).

Almas Art Foundation is a London-based organisation dedicated to promoting modern and contemporary African and African diaspora art through exhibitions, publications and film.
