‘Therein do men from children nothing differ’
Sharp tongues and savage gossip fuel a messy, magnetic attraction in this new production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing in the Globe Theatre, where the cast and creative team have been announced, with Chelsea Walker directing.
The war is over, but the battle for love is just beginning. Beatrice has sworn off men, but there’s something about Benedick she just can’t leave alone.
Meanwhile, beneath Messina’s polished surface, secrets slip, gossip runs wild and reputations hang by a thread. Everyone’s saving face – and nobody’s doing it very well.
Pippa Nixon will play Beatrice and Ken Nwosu will play Benedick, with Joshua John as Claudio and Assa Kanouté as Hero. Joining them are Geraldine Alexander as Sister, Matilda Bailes as Margaret, Marlowe Chan-Reeves as Borachio, Fia Hadeed as Ensemble/Cover, Richard Katz as Dogberry, Kaffe Keating as Seacole/Messenger/Cover, Os Leanse as Verges, Adam Long as Don Pedro, Jonathan McGuiness as Leonato, and Joseph Potter as Don John.
Chelsea Walker says: “I’m thrilled to be back at the Globe, this time in the wonderful outside space, to direct one of Shakespeare’s best loved plays. And I’m particularly excited to be working with such a bold, talented and dynamic ensemble who I know will revel in its comedy, excavate its darkness and bring audiences along for the ride.”
Set in a sun-soaked world of style and status, where image is everything and late-night parties blur into dawn, Much Ado About Nothing is one of Shakespeare’s most incisive romantic comedies.
An unfiltered look at bad behaviour, second chances, and recovering from old wounds.
Globe Theatre, 11th June – 24th October.
