Mercurial, sharp and funny

The Young Vic announced the cast for the upcoming production of Sting, written by Sophie Swithinbank and directed by Nancy Medina.

Adelle Leonce, Nick Blood and Phoebe Ladenburg star in the explosive new work that explores power and control through a sharply contemporary lens.

Playing 18 June to 18 July in the Young Vic’s Maria Studio, this bitingly funny and surreal new thriller casts a light on the systemic injustice that continues to permeate the institutions sworn to protect us.

At the centre of the story is Ash (Leonce), a young woman spiraling between late nights and a new job cataloguing historic cases of women accused of witchcraft. While her relationship with her boss Lily (Ladenberg) intensifies, and her boyfriend Dom (Blood) plays her knight in shining armour, unsettling questions emerge about who is in control, really.

Writer Sophie Swithinbank says, “When I was writing Sting, I thought, no one will ever programme this – it’s quite feral and fingers some dangerous truths about our society. The fact that Nadia Fall has programmed it is proof of what I’ve always suspected – the Young Vic is London’s most punk and fearless theatre.”

Director Nancy Medina says, “Sophie’s writing is mercurial, sharp and funny. It explodes off the page and invites us to lean in and listen. I cannot wait for audiences to experience Sting, brought to life by the magic of this incredible cast.”

Young Vic, 66 The Cut, Waterloo, London, SE1 8LZ from 18th June – 18th July.

Tickets are on sale now via the Young Vic website.
