A woman who won’t be fixed. A man who won’t reveal himself. A rift between them opening up under the stars. The Eden Project is a sharp, unsettling portrait of romantic idealisation — the urge to define, to possess, to be right — and the quiet violence of being loved only partially, and too completely.
The play unfolds as a series of non-linear vignettes between two people — moments of intimacy, conflict and humiliation, replayed and reordered under starlight until the line between memory and invention starts to blur. She resists the shape he tries to impose on her; he resists the ambiguity she won’t relinquish. The result is a sharp, unsettling portrait of romantic idealisation — the urge to define, to possess, to be right — and the quiet violence of being loved only partially, and too completely.
Staged with minimal design and performed with precision, The Eden Project pulls the audience into the room, into the relationship, into the cosmic pull between who someone is and who you need them to be.
Charlie Yang stars alongside Naomi Preston-Low. The production is directed by Grace Andrews, whose credits include work with Declan Donnellan and Katie Mitchell.
