ANDY Woodman said Bromley’s 7-2 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday was “horrific” and the worst performance since he took over in 2021.
The Ravens were 3-0 behind at half-time and 7-0 down before two late consolation goals.
It was Bromley’s first defeat in their third-ever game in the third tier.
Callum Slattery, Mason Burstow and Jamal Lowe in the final minute of the first half put the hosts in control.
It somehow got worse for Bromley as Louie Barry scored ten seconds into the second half and added another three minutes later before Lowe’s second and Gabriel Otegbayo making it seven.
Victor Adeboyejo’s goal five minutes from time and Otegbayo’s own goal two minutes later at least gave the visiting fans something to cheer.
“Horrific. I thought it was terrible,” Woodman said. “I’ve been here five-and-a-half years, and I’ve never seen a team put out such bad performance. We took a team to Newcastle in the Premiership, and we didn’t play as bad as that.
“There was so much wrong from the word go. It’s not the shape and systems and all that stuff. It was just bravery, people doing their jobs or people not doing their jobs, and just a real lack of, I wouldn’t say effort, a lack of just commitment to doing their jobs and being disciplined. And we weren’t. We were wide open. I don’t know why we were wide open. That was not how we were meant to be set up. They just came through us like a knife through butter. We were so bad. There’s so many things that were so bad.”
Woodman made three changes at half-time but it made little difference. Woodman added: “What do you do? You know you’re not going to win the game. You know you’re not getting back in the game. It was damage limitation, and then you can see one or two heads drop, which happens. I get that.
“We have just go to lick our wounds and hopefully that’s a one-off performance, and hopefully just gives us a little bit of a reality check of going back to what we are. We were nowhere near what we’ve been and what you know what we have been in the past.”
“The reaction will be good,” he added. “Don’t worry about that. We’re in tomorrow. We’ll be working tomorrow, working Monday, and the reaction has to be good. We know we’re going to come to places and have tough days. I didn’t quite expect as tough a day as that today, but we’ve got to make sure that we kind of just take care of what we’re about and don’t go away from what we’re about. We were so far detached from what we’ve been last season and since I’ve been here that it was real desperate stuff.”
