Artdog Gallery is opening with a group show that will be celebrating the cultural influence of the USA on music and art and includes Martin Grover, David Hughes, Jon Langford, Mark Todd and others. There will be a Private View on August 19th.

Martin Grover is a South London based artist who creates paintings and silk screens, often of vinyl and other musical themed subjects. All of his silkscreen prints are handmade and limited editions. His portraits of records are informed by a life-long love of music and of collecting old 45s. Each painting lovingly reproduces the graphics, design and ephemeral nature of the paper record sleeves themselves.

Martin says, ‘I was planning to put the record paintings on the back burner for a while but then I was invited to take part in this group exhibition. It would have been rude not to participate. Also it offered me the chance to paint this seminal Mott the Hoople track, debuting here along with some other new pieces and a few recent favourites. It’s short notice, I know, but hope to see some of you Dudes, both young and old, at the PV on the 19th.’

Jon Langford

Jon Langford has been a constant fixture on the fringes of the music industry and art world for the last three decades, irons in the fire, plates in the air, occasionally, accidentally in tune with current fads and phases but happier charting his own contrary course through the choppy waters of popular culture. The Welsh born artist and musician, who relocated to Chicago in 1992, has a degree in fine art from the University of Leeds where in great British art school tradition he downed brushes to co-found that seminal punk rock band, The Mekons in 1977.

On September 8th, Jon will be talking about his art and picking up the old guitar to play a few tunes. (7pm – 9pm)
