Cifuentes determined to make Loftus Road a fortress for QPR

MARTI Cifuentes wants to make Loftus Road a major asset for QPR in their bid to beat the Championship drop.

The Hoops’ home form has been absolutely woeful over the past year, with just one solitary victory witnessed by the club’s long-suffering loyal supporters.

New manager Cifuentes takes charge of his first Loftus Road game tomorrow against Bristol City and today explained why he had held this morning’s training session at the stadium.

“Basically to start to share with the players what kind of game we want to play,” the Spaniard told QPR TV.

“I do believe a lot as well in organisation – of them feeling and understanding how we want to perform tomorrow, so that they get a clear picture. I do believe that this should be our fortress.

“It should be very, very difficult for the opponent to get points from here. That’s the target that I have.

“I do believe about this connection between us, the stadium, the pitch and the crowd tomorrow.

“The best way to do it is just to experience that already today.

“It was a very good practice and I think the players got a real idea about what we want to do tomorrow.”

Cifuentes also restated that he has no interest in what happened before his arrival last week following the sacking of Gareth Ainsworth after QPR lost their last home game 2-1 to Leicester.

He said: “I said to the guys from day one that we start from zero.

“I’m not here to judge what happened before the previous week, I just want to look back to the last week (1-1 Rotherham) if needed – what are the things we can improve?

“It would be really disrespectful from my side to just try to analyse or to take that (the past) into account. It is a fresh start for everybody.”

Cifuentes added: “I’m looking forward to having a great atmosphere tomorrow on the pitch together with our supporters to build this togetherness, to push, to play attractive football.

“I really want them to feel proud from the way we face the games and the way we want to play football.

“That’s all that I care for. In my head I am aware about the challenge, I’m aware about the situation where we are but I just want to win the next game. That’s all I care about.”

QPR will tomorrow be without Ilias Chair, the man who scored in that draw with Rotherham, through suspension.

Cifuentes accepts it isn’t an ideal situation but pointed out there are still plenty of matches to play in which all members of the squad can play their part.

The Hoops gaffer said: “We want our best players on the pitch, there is no doubt about it.

“But at the same time, it is my job to make sure that we build a clear foundation where everybody can perform.

“The Championship is an extremely long league.

“There are a lot of games, it is a tough competition and in that sense we’ve already talked to the guys that there will be a moment for almost everyone as long as they deserve that, as long as they train to get that opportunity.

“But I am very encouraged about what I have seen in the practices – they are showing great commitment, they have a great desire to buy into those ideas.

“That idea is about getting the best out of all of them, getting the best skills and putting those skills in the right part of the pitch so that they can perform.

“This is one of my biggest jobs so I am very encouraged about the opportunities that everybody will have here in the future and I’m sure they will respond, starting tomorrow.”
