As here becomes there / Home is where the heart is is an exhibition that explores the Aylesbury Estate through the lives, eyes and experiences of the residents who live there.
The works on show represent two distinct community engagement projects with Aylesbury residents during 2020-2021. Projects which became more pertinent as COVID-19 forced us all to reassess what community means and how we pull together.
‘As here becomes there’ was an exploration of the estate initiated by young residents who guided participating artists to places of significance to them, which were then investigated collaboratively through a series of drawing, printmaking and photography workshops in early 2020.
‘Home is where the heart is’ marks the publication of an intergenerational postal exchange between older and younger residents, that took place during 8 weeks of lockdown in 2021. The project explored the challenges of relocation by focusing on the strength of the community and its shared experiences.
On 4 September, former and current Aylesbury residents are invited to join the artists for a community event as part of ‘Home is where the heart is’. This is an opportunity to find out more about the project, meet participants, talk to them about their experiences and to add their own voice to our collection of recorded memories.
