Local Roots music night Malted Shake is hosting Leeds’ finest Rock & Rollers, Howlin’ Ric & the Rocketeers at the Malt Bar on Friday 10th February.
An exciting take on a great American tradition, Howlin’ Ric & the Rocketeers present original Rock & Roll and Rhythm ‘n’ Blues with a classic but fresh sound. If you took a big old cast iron cooking pot and slung in a heady mix of old school Rock & Roll and scorching Rhythm & Blues all mixed up with stellar contemporary Roots music luminaries like JD McPherson and Nick Curran and gave it a good stir, this is what you might cook up. Howlin’ Ric & the Rocketeers play vibrant and authentic music with a nod to the past and their feet planted firmly in the now. From driving R&B to swoonsome popcorn, powered along by Bluesy vocals, honking sax and gritty guitar, this tight quintet gives red hot rhythmic value for money every single time.
Following on from last year’s tour to launch their album Cautionary Tales and a hectic musical workload, they haven’t been down south much, so this gig will be a rare opportunity to see the future of Rock & Roll writ large.
Friday 10th February at the Malt Bar. Arch 46, Ropewalk, Maltby Street, London, SE1 3PA. Doors open 5PM. Band onstage from 7:30PM. Admission: £13.50.
