In 1889 Texas, Cody and Beau have one goal: to become cowboys. From the safety of their shared bedroom, gunfights blaze and outlaw legends come alive. But when the boys plot an escape into the desert, the reality of the West proves far more complex than their magazine-fed fantasies.
Created and performed by lifelong friends, this is an electrifying two-hander set in the heart of 1889 Texas. From inside the four walls of their bedroom, you are drawn into Cody and Beau’s vivid imaginations, where gunfights erupt and cowboy legends spring to life. Here, anything seems possible.
But when the boys craft an elaborate plan to escape their lives in Texas and chase the outlawin’ dream, what awaits them in the desert is not as expected. A ride toward freedom soon unfolds into a heartfelt exploration of masculinity and friendship, all while confronting the divisions rooted within the darker chapters of America’s history.
Fresh from an acclaimed run at the Edinburgh and Dundee Fringe, Cody and Beau: A Wild West Story returns for a limited London run with a bold reimagining of boyhood and the myths we inherit.
Dylan Kaeuper and Will Grice are an Edinburgh based writing/performer company of two who started their collaboration while in secondary school. Dylan and Will Theatre is a company driven by a mission to make inventive, actor-led theatre that surprises, provokes and most importantly, entertains. Cody and Beau: A Wild West Story was their debut production as collaborators. They set out to create something with an innocent and playful energy, before asking the audience to confront something darker – the Wild West.
