There’s one like him in every town, with their hair, their clothes, the walk and the talk. The Elvis wannabes.
Tim French’s The Bastard Sons of a Small Town Elvis, tells the tale of best mates, Danny and Billy, on a quest to meet and confront the father Danny has never met, after receiving a cryptic invite to a rock & roll event where he is performing. Danny’s father, John, considers himself a rock & roll artiste; a reckless rocker who loved and promptly left Danny’s mum.
On the night of the gig and planned reunion, Danny and Billy get far more than they had bargained for. Mistaken identities, miscommunication, and rock & roll ensues. This new musical is a fast-paced and light-hearted look at individual and parental responsibilities, as well as what one is compelled to do to satisfy the dream.
They say that rock & roll will never die. It has changed the world for sure, creating generations full of adventure, awareness and attitude. Elvis epitomised all that was rock & roll and gave young men especially the chance to aspire beyond and above humble beginnings, towards a brighter, self-fulfilling future. Johnny Heartbreaker is just one of those men who has dedicated his life to the cause – despite the cost to others.
Bolstered with original rock & roll numbers performed by a live band, The Bastard Sons of a Small Town Elvis promises a rollicking good time.
