A letterpress installation of young peopleʼs thoughts on the future
Future Footsteps is a new immersive letterpress installation by Michelle Dwyer of Nice & Graphic studio, created in collaboration with a group of young people from South London. The exhibition will feature over 300 hand-printed posters wallpapering the entire space.
Each poster shares a thought in a young personʼs own words. Their responses explore hopes and fears for the future, the challenges of growing up today, and the things adults donʼt always understand. Some are hopeful, some are uncertain, some are funny, and some are deep. Together, they give us a glimpse into how young people see themselves, their generation, and the world around them.
The project is created with Step Out Mentoring, a charity supporting young peopleʼs mental health through outdoor activities, connection and positive opportunities. Their experiences with Step Out — building rafts, exploring London, conquering fears and learning to trust people, became part of the conversations behind the work.
Michelle Dwyer is a Peckham-based letterpress artist and founder of Nice & Graphic studio. Known for bold gradient colours and strong typography, she has exhibited in London and Madrid. She leads community-focused projects, running workshops and open days that make letterpress accessible to a wider audience. Dedicated to preserving traditional printing techniques, Michelle uses the craft to connect people and amplify unheard voices. She is also a mentee of renowned typographic artist Alan Kitching.
