Where to eat and drink in Bermondsey and Rotherhithe this season…

Taste of Italy on Bermondsey Street

When you visit Baccalà, you feel their passion for creating authentic Italian food. They want to create dining experiences “true to our roots”. With a seasonal menu showcasing fresh seafood and produce, they are transporting Italy’s heart – and flavours – straight to SE1.

This season, the menu boats dishes of frittura di calamaretti (black baby squid, saffron mayo), capesante, melone, erba ostrica, limone e panzanella (raw scallops, melon, oyster leaf, lemon jelly, panzanella) and spaghetti ‘mancini’, vongole, fiore di zucchina (spaghetti with clams, courgette flower) to name a few that tickle our tastebuds.

With its own olive oil menu, too, it’s the perfect place to go to tear and share a basket of bread and experience the different tastes of olive oil from the varying regions of Italy.

They also have a wine shop, with a curated list featuring a selection of Italian wines from small, independent producers, “who respect and love their territory”, they say.

Sake brewery and bar comes to SE1

KANPAI London Craft Sake Brewery moves to new premises on Druid Street. The relocation brings a new and unique taproom to the top of the Bermondsey Beer Mile, as the sake trend grows in the UK.

After seven years of pioneering the UK craft sake scene in Peckham, KANPAI is expanding its brewery – and its sake production.

The new premises will include a modern taproom bar with 10 dedicated sake draft taps pouring the freshest sakes straight from the tanks, as well as seasonal Japanese cocktails, craft beers and Japanese spirits.

Keep an eye out for KANPAI’s launch events in the lead up to World Sake Day on 1 October.
