British Youth Music Theatre and Candoco, the world’s foremost inclusive dance company, are presenting a free outdoor dance event BURST as part of The Day of Dance, bringing companies from within Mountview drama school into the local open space.
BYMT has been funded by Southwark Council’s Culture Together Grant to collaborate with Candoco to create the BURST project and performance.
BYMT and Candoco have been delivering workshops in local SEN schools and engaging 16-25-year-olds through taster sessions in June and July and have invited a group of disabled and non-disabled performers to spend 4 days together creating a mix of dance and music-inspired material to perform.
Candoco has said: “Candoco’s annual Day of Dance outdoor festival is a free community event bringing Southwark residents together to enjoy high-quality cultural activity in Peckham Square.
“The event provides inclusive and accessible participatory opportunities through free workshops and fun and exciting performances from Southwark and beyond for the whole family.”

“This project is all about creating opportunities for growth and learning, ensuring that young people can reach their full potential.

“The Day of Dance is a chance to show local people what goes on inside the Mountview building and how they can be part of the creative community.
“This collaborative celebration of dance and music will have a positive and creative impact on the lives of the participants, artists and companies involved, as well as the local community.”
