Opening this May at Eames Fine Art, a new solo exhibition of lino cuts from Paul Catherall. This Was Tomorrow is a celebration of the utopian ideals that were present in many post-war rebuilds.

Works on display include some rarely mentioned gems, such as Coventry Central Baths, and focus on the utilitarian aspect of this optimistic period of architecture. Libraries, shopping centres, museums, theatres, car parks and galleries all get a look-in.

As with my previous show, Sent from Coventry, unfortunately, a good number of these iconic buildings have already submitted to the wrecking ball – from Elephant & Castle Shopping Centre to the much-missed Welbeck Street car park. Others are under threat or have been redeveloped with many original features gone or overshadowed.

This Was Tomorrow is a nostalgic ode to a time when commerce came second to public use.

More details coming soon, but please save the dates – the Private View will be held on Wednesday 10 May 2023 and the exhibition will run to June 18. Hope to see you then!
