How to Enjoy [The City] is a series of 22 interactive events designed to restore connections and engage the community; building a better, more connected society after an isolated 18 months.
Every Friday and Saturday throughout August 2021, international arts organisation state of the [art] are set to host a diverse range of interactive events, stamping their signature twists on; silent discos, spoken word, stand-up comedy, yoga, creative coding classes, live art, game shows, artist networking opportunities, monologue slams and date nights, as well as an exclusive collaboration with South Asian Artist Collective; Juice Magazine. The events are part of a fundraising campaign for their upcoming project How to Build [The City].
BATTLE OF THE CONCEPT BANDS on Saturday 14th August calls all those who have ever wanted to be in a band as well as established bands and musicians wanting a new challenge. The theme is to take a genre of music and interpret the songs in a different one. Imagine punk interpretations of pop / rap / rock songs, to be performed live for the biggest audience reaction and the winners to be crowned battle champions. Theme announcements coming soon to social media channels.
Friday 20th August is an alternative DATE NIGHT where singleton’s submit their profile and Spotify playlist and let [state] work its magic. With complimentary Prosecco or mocktail in hand, individuals will have two dates over a two course meal. For starters, individuals will be matched on submitted profiles and for mains on a submitted playlist. [state] will be on hand to offer exciting (and respectful) questions and tasks to give an alternative dating experience.
How to Build [The City], developed as part of Omnibus Theatre’s emerging artist scheme Engine Room is entering Phase 2 of R&D. Supported by Omnibus, state of the [art] are continuing to collaborate with a huge range of emerging artists from poets to creative coders, musicians, performers and designers. Continuing rehearsals and the building of the performance in the style of a “hackathon”, they will be developing audience interactivity through mini games with the public in outdoor spaces through spontaneous engagement, as well as working on technical theories and dramaturgy as the next step in exploring how to rebuild, redesign and reclaim relationships within the city post-pandemic.
Artistic Director of Omnibus Theatre Marie McCarthy comments: “I love the work of state of the [art] – challenging, provocative and distinctive. I am completely thrilled that they will be taking over Omnibus Theatre during August and cannot wait to see the programme of work they have planned.”
Executive Director of state of the [art] Laura Singleton comments: “Thanks to the incredible support from Omnibus, we’ve really been able to put the fun in fundraising and we can’t wait to share and experience these exciting events with the community!”
