Alice sits on a riverbank on a warm summer day, drowsily reading over her sister’s shoulder, when she catches sight of a White Rabbit running by her. He pulls out a pocket watch, exclaims that he is late, and pops down a rabbit hole. Alice follows, down the hole and into Aerialand….where she is guided by the shelf people, shrinks and grows, swims, enters a sham of a garden, has an argument with a Caterpillar, drinks tea (tries to) with the Hatter, gets enchanted by a Cheshire Cat and finally pays a visit to her ruler – The Queen of Hearts – on the day of her Platinum Jubilee!
A story of wonder and nonsense laced with lethal wit, of games, of riddles and conundrums, of questions with no answers, but above all of magic and adventure in which everyone, young and old, can lose themselves and revel in the nonsense. But most of all it is a universal tale that reaches out to everyone.
Alice’s Adventures in Aerialand is an exciting outdoor performance for the whole family, that was designed with specific focus on special needs access, in particular, for people with dementia. The show will be performed in Myatt’s Field park on 11 June and 30 July, at 2pm & 6pm.
All company members are trained in dementia awareness and DBS checked. Specialist dementia support workers and SEN consultants helped create the most accessible production possible.
Research was carried out in 2021 where those living with dementia, young people with PMLD, additional needs and carers watched ideas and gave feedback, helping inform the accessibility of the show. Trigger risks have been assessed in response to audience feedback.
There will be: Inclusive audience participation. Unique use of aerial circus and verse storytelling. Visually stimulating experience for those who may find following narratives difficult
The Dot Collective was formed in 2016? to provide innovative theatre of a high, professional standard that’s accessible and cognitively stimulating for those living in care, particularly those living with dementia.
