The chill of dawn after an intense night of illicit passion: Angie and Reed find themselves confronting questions related to intimacy, consent, and even sexual assault. As they contest the truth of what happened the night before, a vast chasm emerges between their experience of what happened and their understanding of the meaning of consent.
C’mon Angie! is an intimate drama exploring the aftermath of a one-night stand. The audience is invited to ponder the relentlessly problematic and ever-current predicaments of sexual responsibility, truth and power. The play deals with dialogue around sexual consent, coercion and the theme of sexual assault between familiar partners.
Featuring strong language, sexual references and vivid descriptions, the story is told with dark humour, heart, and unflinching honesty. C’mon Angie! dramatises a difficult and all-too-familiar situation, leaving the audience to wrestle with what exactly is truth, and who can truly claim to possess it.
Canadian playwright Amy Lee Lavoie wrote C’mon Angie! just before the explosion of the “Me Too” movement. She insists that its origins have no agenda but should be experienced on its theatrical premise.
Although originally set and performed in Vancouver, this UK Premiere production relocates the setting to Belfast, with the author’s blessing. The team hope this brings out some of the pressures of living in a small, sometimes insular city society where citizens live out their lives without ever being challenged on their view of the world. Or how that worldview might impact others.
