Old York Theatre presents Jorvik, written by Charlie Blanshard; an immersive and interactive Viking play set at the fall of York.
Fun, fierce and with a lot of heart, this piece of new writing explores the modern day through the Viking lens. We aren’t as different from our ancestors as we think. Our desires – while modern at a glance – are deeply rooted in the same human condition: the obsession with glory, fate, and the need to be remembered. Jorvik examines the idea of legacy, loss, glory and family. Jorvik serves as a reminder that we need to enjoy life whilst we are still around to do so, and to cherish those we hold dear.
First performed in the heart of York – at the historic Viking Festival, Jorvik now makes its London debut.
Charlie Blanshard, the writer and performer, says, ‘I am so excited for Jorvik’s run at The Glitch. Despite its name, the show is not just about York, it is about being human, being connected and this strange thing we call life. Our style of storytelling is unique, and I can’t wait to see how that resonates with audiences in London. Our shows are active, for us and the audience – The Great Viking Army. It’s not a show to hide at the back with some popcorn, YOU are a part of this saga. See you in the great hall.’
Expect celebration, song, combat, larger than life characters and plenty of toasting!
The saga lives on.
The Glitch, 134 Lower Marsh, London SE1 7AE from January 21st – February 9th.
