According to the Chinese this is the year we have all been waiting for, as amid the doom and gloom of the cost of living crisis, Saturday 10 February marks the Lunar New Year of the Dragon, heralding good fortune, wealth and prosperity.
On this high note head down to the Greenwich Peninsula which will be jam-packed with Lunar events for 14-days – and best of all most of it is free.
Last week the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich’s held family-oriented events for the Lunar New Year, but they were celebrating a week early.
In this new district of Greenwich, billed as the Design District with new impressive architecture and one of the capital’s best collection of public art – including no less than six Damien Hirst sculptures – you will be able to dance with the dragon, explore and take part in traditional Chinese workshops and try the ultimate in Asian food and drink.

Watch the Dragon Dance
On Saturday, 10 February from 1pm – 3pm visitors can watch some traditional Dragon Dancing – a traditional form of dance to symbolise strength, good fortune and prosperity.
Explore the art of Chinese tapestry
If you like tapestry there are a number of events and displays.
From 10 February until 24 February the Bureau restaurant will feature the contemporary tapestry from Hong Kong born artist Nicole Chui. Selected as one of the ‘25 future faces under 25’ by the Evening Standard.
And for the entire 14 days at the Firepit Art Gallery and studio on Cutter Lane, you can find the ‘Splendours of Henan: A Cultural Tapestry’ exhibition, featuring designs of the Henan province, a region nestled in heartof east-central China.

DJs and Year of the Dragon inspired cocktails
The Canteen Food Hall & Bar will be offering a range of craft cocktails using Sake – a Japanese rice wine sourced from a local South London bewery.
On Saturday 10 February you can also enjoy music from DJ Miamor, DJ Donny Blaze and DJ Flecs from 10am to 2pm.
Ultimate in Asian comfort food
The Canteen Food Hall & Bar, is also presenting five international street food kitchens including Juk Pou, London’s very first congee and youtiao street food concept.
Juk Pou serves up sweet or savoury Congee, alongside authentic rice bowls and youtiao–a chocolate dipped deep fried breadstick.
