Radical Cabaret Returns to Soho

Anne Pigalle, the French singer and multimedia artist (writer, musician, art performer, poet, photographer and painter), has launched La Nuit Amérotique at The St Moritz club in Soho, a modern cabaret based on the original 19th century radical cabaret Le Chat Noir that once invigorated the free spirits in her hometown of Paris, write Michael Holland.

The next club night is on December 4th and will be a Christmas Soho Special.

I met with Ms Pigalle – The Queen of Soho – at an art exhibition to talk about the upcoming event, which she is very excited about.

Parenthesis Dot Dot Dot: ‘the indie band with infinite possibilities in between’ will open the show to warm up the audience for Peckham’s finest, Mark McGowan: The Artist Taxi Driver.

I spoke to the performance artist who has, over his career, both engaged open-minded art lovers and enraged the narrow-minded media. I asked him what we can expect. ‘I’ve not decided yet,’ he said enigmatically, ‘I might cover myself in something.’

Naddy Sane, the ‘crazed hula hooper’ is on the bill, as is Petronella Carter , the ‘Hypnotising Egyptian dancer’.

But it was Miss Pigalle I was most interested in, but she would only say, intriguingly, ‘I will be on at 10pm when all will be revealed…’
