Christmas and New Year bins

Lambeth residents will experience some changes to their usual bin collection dates because of the festive period.

Lambeth Council has told residents that if their usual collection day is a Thursday or Friday, rubbish will be collected the following day during the Christmas and New Year weeks.

So, if your rubbish is supposed to be collected on Friday, December 26 (Boxing Day), it will instead be collected on Saturday, December 27. The same goes for those with a collection due on Thursday, December 25 (Christmas Day) with bins instead being emptied on Boxing Day.

Those whose waste is due to be removed on Thursday, January 1 will have it picked up on Friday, January 2, and those with a normal Friday collection will see them collected on Saturday, January 3. Everything returns to normal from Monday, January 5.

Recycling your real Christmas tree – and how to get it collected for free

Lambeth Council has announced that it will be collecting real Christmas trees for free. Lambeth residents can put their trees out for collection from Monday, January 5.

Real Christmas trees can be left next to your bins on your collection day, but make sure to remove pots and decorations as they can’t be recycled.

The council has warned that it can only collect a limited number of trees each day because they take up a lot of space. If your tree is not collected, the council says trees should be taken back in and left next to your bins again on your next collection day.

Residents living on estates can leave their real Christmas trees by the bin areas or bulky waste collection areas.

Residents can alternatively book a slot and take their tree to one of Lambeth’s recycling sites, which are Smugglers Way Recycling Centre and Vale Street Reuse and Recycling Centre.

Real Christmas trees can also be taken to the collection point in Clapham Common, off Windmill Drive.
