A former Met Police officer has been jailed for three years for death by dangerous driving of 25-year-old Shante Daniel-Folkes who was killed on Stockwell Road in 2021.
Former PC Nadeem Patel pleaded guilty to the charge in November 2022 and was sentenced last February.
But the media could not legally report this until his colleague’s trial had concluded.
PC Gary Thomson, who was driving ahead of Patel, has now been found guilty of careless driving and fined £500.
Following the sentencing on Monday, August 7, he will also receive five penalty points on his licence.
According to Sky News, the judge called for the Met Police to conduct a review into acceptable emergency response speeds.
The court heard how the crash occurred as two separate police cars responded to an emergency call at 11.20pm on Stockwell Road, on Wednesday, June 9.
Shante Daniel-Folkes, from West Norwood, was struck by the second car, driven by PC Patel.
Despite the best efforts of officers and paramedics, she tragically died at the scene.
The two officers were charged following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), supported by the Met.
After being sentenced, Patel was dismissed without notice after a misconduct hearing on May 4.
PC Thomson was initially charged with dangerous driving. He pleaded not guilty and was acquitted after a trial at the Old Bailey in July. However, he was found guilty of careless driving.
Now the criminal case has concluded, PC Thomson will be subject to misconduct proceedings.
Commander Seb Adjei-Addoh, in charge of policing in Lambeth, said: “My thoughts and condolences are with the family of Shante Daniel-Folkes. The circumstances are tragic and have brought upset to our communities in Lambeth.
“Our Police Community Engagement team will be working hard to listen and respond to local concerns stemming from this incident and trial verdict over the coming days.”
