A Peckham-based composer, who teaches local kids piano, is launching his electronic classical album with a free live performance featuring a string quartet next week.
Award-winning composer Ben Ramsden and music ensemble KORDA are having a free launch party for their new album To Care.
Ben, originally from North Yorkshire, moved to southeast London nine years ago – to study composition at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Greenwich.

“I’m from working-class Yorkshire, and I couldn’t relate to the elitist image that classical music has. So I wanted to mix it with electronic music, another genre I’m into – to reach a middle ground.”
He said it brings together modern classical music and alternative, electronic music in an emotional project cultivated over 4 years.
The album was written for KORDA, a string quartet passionate about making classical music accessible to a modern-day audience. They will be playing it live next Monday (January 16) at Peckham Levels.
“I’m really excited to finally share this with people in such a unique space,” Ben added.
Venues of his past performances include the Southbank Centre, Lyric Hammersmith, Resolution Dance Festival, Vault Festival and Edinburgh Fringe.
He now lives in Peckham and as well as composing, he teaches piano to kids across southeast London. His latest project is composing music for a short horror film.
He added that the music acts as a piece of therapy and although there are no words, it was inspired by the topic of mental health.
The launch party is free to attend and will take place at 450, Peckham Levels on January 16, from 7 pm.
