Labour’s Steve Reed has been re-elected as MP for Streatham and Croydon North in South London. Reed, 60, won with 23,242 votes.
Green Party candidate Scott Ainslie, a local councillor, finished second, with 7,629 votes. Anthony Boutall, the Conservative Party candidate, was third with 5,328 votes. Claire Bonham, the Liberal Democrat candidate, finished fourth with 5,031 votes.
Reed, a former leader of Lambeth Council, was Labour MP for the now abolished constituency of Croydon North from 2012 until the end of May. At the previous General Election in 2019, he won 65.6 per cent of the vote.
The new seat of Streatham and Croydon North is made up of parts of the former Streatham constituency and the former Croydon North constituency. Areas covered by the new seat include Crystal Palace, Norbury, much of Streatham and Upper Norwood.
Reed’s victory was announced in the early hours of Friday (July 5) at The Oval in South London, where results were also declared for Dulwich & West Norwood, and Vauxhall & Camberwell Green, both of which were held by Labour.
