Pedestrian hospitalised and driver arrested in Elephant and Castle

A woman in her thirties was rushed to hospital after police raced to a road incident outside the Sainsbury’s on New Kent Road on Saturday, June 17.

The driver was arrested and taken into custody. 

Medics were on the scene in less than four minutes and treated her for a leg injury.

She was rushed to an east London hospital where her condition was not considered neither life-threatening nor life-changing. 

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 22:36hrs on Saturday, 17 June to New Kent Road, junction Elephant Road SE1 following a road traffic collision.

“A woman in her 30s was transported to an east London hospital; her condition was assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.

“The driver of the car was arrested and taken into custody.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.34pm yesterday (17 June) to reports of a road traffic collision on New Kent Road, SE1.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an advanced paramedic, a medic in a fast response car, an incident response officer and a clinical team manager. We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance which consisted of a paramedic and a doctor in a car.

“Our first medics arrived in less than four minutes. We treated a woman for a leg injury before taking her to hospital.”
