A massive fire has obliterated a Greenwich house – with 70 firefighters needed to extinguish the blaze.

Crews were called to Davern Close at around 12pm on Monday, June 5, and tackled the fire for almost four hours.

Dramatic photos showed firefighters blasting water at the property as thick clouds of smoke billowed out.

One man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The fire is believed to have been accidental and caused by a candle.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “The Brigade was called at 1218 and the fire was under control by 1556.

“Candles are one of the most common causes of fire. It’s really important that you never leave a candle unattended and keep them away from anything else that can easily catch fire.”

999eye technology was used during the incident, a platform that allows callers to live stream incidents through their phones, and get real-time advice from the control room.

Surveying the damage, firefighters established that the first, second and third floors of the end-of-terrace house had been destroyed.

The brigade took 20 calls relating to the incident and sent crews from fire stations including East Greenwich, Lewisham, Lee Green, Poplar and Plumstead.
