Southampton Way fatal stabbing: 25-year-old charged with murder

A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder after a man was stabbed to death on Southampton Way in Peckham. 

Aravind Sasikumar, 38, died after being found with stab injuries outside a residential property in Southampton Way, in the early hours of Friday, June 16.

Salman Salim, 25, who lives on the same road, was charged with his murder yesterday (Saturday, June 17).

Police were called at 1.27am and discovered Aravind – who died at the scene despite emergency services’ best efforts.

A post-mortem examination confirmed he died from a stab wound to the chest. 

Salim appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on the same day and was remanded in custody. He will appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, June 20.

Aravind’s family has been informed and is being supported by specialist officers. 

Middle-aged man stabbed to death on Southampton Way in Peckham

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a man in Southwark have charged a man with murder.

“Aravind Sasikumar died after being found with stab injuries outside a residential property in Southampton Way on Friday, 16 June.

“His family have been informed and continue to by supported by detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command.

“On Saturday, 17 June, Salman Salim, 25 (03.04.98), of Southampton Way, was charged with murder.

“He appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on the same day and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 20 June.

“Police were called at 01:27hrs on Friday, 16 June after a man was found with stab injuries outside a residential address in Southampton Way.

“Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service. Despite the efforts of emergency services, Aravind, aged 38, died at the scene.

“A post-mortem examination carried out on Friday, 16 June confirmed he died as a result of stab wounds to the chest.”
