A primary school in Streatham has been recognised for its work supporting young carers.
Streatham Wells Primary received the ‘School of the Year’ at the Young Carerer awards on September 18 for its work supporting pupils who have caring responsibilities at home.
Streatham Wells Primary’s approach includes dedicated mental health support, peer support groups and practical assistance to help pupils manage their caring responsibilities.
According to the school, the initiative has contributed to improved attendance and wellbeing among young carers, as well as giving pupils greater access to enrichment opportunities.
The award recognises Streatham Wells Primary’s efforts to ensure young carers are supported both inside and outside the classroom and are able to reach their full potential.
