Charlton’s long protracted takeover is finally on the brink of completion the club confirmed today.
SE7 Partners had provisionally agreed to purchase the Addicks last month but still required the EFL and FA to formally approve the deal.
Those obstacles have now been overcome, meaning Thomas Sandgaard’s tenure in control at The Valley will soon be officially history, with SE7 Partners’ Charlie Methven and Edward Warwick set to replace the controversial Dane at the helm.
Charlton Athletic released an update this morning which said: “The club can confirm that the takeover by SE7 Partners has received the required clearance from both the EFL and FA.
“The clearance brings to an end weeks of work by Peter Storrie and his supporting team at the club along with help from the buyers and Thomas Sandgaard.
“Following the clearance there now remains a few standard legal procedures to conclude, which may take a number of days, before the takeover is fully completed.
“The club and SE7 Partners group, who agreed a deal to purchase Charlton in June, will communicate with supporters as soon as the takeover is fully completed.”
Charlton manager Dean Holden welcomed the development and hopes it signals the beginning of the club’s rise back to former glories.
“I think everybody’s excited by it,” said Holden.
“It’s a new era for the football club.
“There’s some great ideas and we’re really excited about getting working with the guys and moving this club exactly where we want to get it to.”
Charlton continued their pre-season campaign with a 3-1 victory at Gillingham last night.
Tyreece Campbell put the Addicks in front within a minute before Will Bright equalised for Gillingham on the half hour with a free-kick.
Corey Blackett-Taylor restored the advantage nine minutes after the break and Jack Payne completed the scoring shortly afterwards.
Holden told CharltonTV: “The pleasing thing was the goals we scored.
“If you look at the first goal, we turned the ball over just outside our box and within three passes you’ve got Tyreece Campbell on the edge of their box.
“For the second goal we get isolated, which is exactly where you want him.
“And the third one’s brilliant from a counter attacking point of view.
“Ash (Maynard-Brewer) catches it and again, three or four passes later, Nathan Asiimwe is here on the goal line crossing it.
“The ability to get through the pitch quickly is something we’re drilling into the team.
“Some of the players are used to a more possession-based style from most of last season, so we keep banging the drum with that.”
