Manager Johnnie Jackson believes new signing James Ball can only strengthen AFC Wimbledon’s midfield.
Ball arrived on a two-year deal after leaving Rochdale as a free agent having represented the Spotland side 36 times last season.
The 27-year-old becomes the Dons’ tenth addition in what has been a busy summer of comings and goings at Plough Lane.
And Jackson revealed Ball made it clear he wanted to join.
The boss told afcwimbledon.co.uk: “He’s another player that has an abundance of experience at this level.
“He’s a big physical midfield player who can (go) box-to-box and provide energy.
“I loved his desire to come and join the football club.
“From the get-go he showed enthusiasm to come and be a part of what we’re doing here.”
Jackson also hailed Ethan Sutcliffe’s defensive display in last night’s 1-0 friendly win over Portsmouth, sealed thanks to a first half own goal.
The youngster caught the eye as the Dons successfully shut out higher league opponents to maintain their unbeaten pre-season campaign.
Sutcliffe, 19, spent most of last year on the sidelines but is now back to full fitness as Wimbledon prepare for the League Two opener at Grimsby on Saturday week.
And the Dons boss was suitably impressed by last night’s efforts alongside defensive partner Alex Pearce.
“I thought the young lad did great,” Jackson said.
“Last season he had a really bad injury that was very tough to take for him.
“He was with us during the last pre-season, had his loans and then his campaign was curtailed.
“He’s missed a big chunk of football.
“I was actually reluctant to bring him off because he was doing so well.
“He played 90 minutes at Brentford on Friday and I think he was magnificent tonight.
“Alex Pearce was excellent with the way he helped Ethan alongside him.
“As a manager, you want to see your experienced players advising the younger ones on the field.
“We’ve got an abundance of talent coming through our academy that I’ve shown will get opportunities if they’re good enough and ready.”
