Dons chief expecting even more goals to come from Bugiel

JOHNNIE Jackson feels Omar Bugiel will go on to score more goals after grabbling yesterday’s winner for AFC Wimbledon at Harrogate Town.

The Lebanese striker’s sixth minute effort settled the contest in the Dons’ favour, lifting them up to second in the League Two table ahead of Saturday’s trip to promotion rivals Mansfield.

Bugiel has provided plenty of assists during Wimbledon’s excellent start to the campaign, including setting up one of Ali Al-Hamadi’s hat-trick goals in Saturday’s 4-1 demolition of Tranmere.

Last night it was his turn to hit the target in Yorkshire with his first league goal of the season and his manager is convinced the 26-year-old will soon be adding to that tally.

Jackson told afcwimbledon.co.uk: “It was like his pass for Ali at the weekend, it was the exact same technique.

“He’s got that in the locker, Omar. He practices it.

“I’m pleased for him because he does all the dirty work and I think he takes as much pleasure in setting his mate up as what he does scoring.

“He’s capable of that and I think he’ll score more goals.”

The clean sheet was Wimbledon’s first in six games and Jackson was pleased to see his side regain their mean streak at the back.

“We had a really solid defensive structure,” the Plough Lane gaffer said.

“Although the scoreline wasn’t comfortable, I felt comfortable within the game.

“I think my boys were good out of possession and when we needed to be aggressive in wide areas we stuck crosses in. I don’t think Alex Bass has had a save to make.

“As far as 1-0 goes, it’s as comfortable a 1-0 as you’re going to see.”

Although the outcome may not sound as exciting as Saturday’s thumping of Tranmere or the 3-1 win at Walsall, Jackson admits he loves a narrow success on the road.

He explained: “It’s one of my favourite scorelines in football, a 1-0 away from home.

“A clean sheet at a tough place to come on a Tuesday night, it’s a long way from home.

“It’s why we got carried away afterwards because it’s for the supporters that made the journey.

“We were delighted to send them home happy.”
