JOSH Davison believes James Tilley was very unfortunate not to rescue AFC Wimbledon a point against Stockport on Saturday.
Tilley has been in prolific form in front of goal since joining the Dons from Crawley in the summer.
He looked almost certain to continue his scoring spree when an opening presented itself deep into stoppage time with Wimbledon trailing 2-1.
However, this time it wasn’t to be as the goal machine fired into the side-netting with what was pretty much the last kick of the game.
And Davison, who had earlier put the Dons in front against the Hatters, says it was just a case of lady luck not shining in Tilley’s favour this time.
He told AFC Wimbledon’s YouTube channel: “You can’t fault James Tilley with that last chance in time added on. He’ s scored seven goals for us already this season.
“If you wanted it to fall for one man, you wanted it to fall to him. He was unlucky at the end.
“The two goals we conceded came from quite direct play.
“One was on the counter and they caught us on the break.
“Their player was free in the box for the other one and got the goal, but that’s unlike us.
“Normally we’d stop those goals and get that away, so we’ll need to look into it.”
Saturday’s 2-1 reverse was Wimbledon’s only League Two defeat of the campaign, the only other loss coming in a memorable Carabao Cup tie at Chelsea.
And Davison feels their positive start can be put down to the strength Johnnie Jackson now has at his disposal after a huge recruitment drive which leaves Wimbledon better equipped to compete.
He explained: “We’ve got good depth. I think that is the one thing we’ve got this season especially.
“We’ve got lads that are coming on off the bench and we’ve seen so far at the beginning of the season sometimes with the subs we’ve made the impact has been positive.’
“Whereas last season we were dying out towards the end of games and you could tell by the results that we were conceding late on.
“This season that hasn’t been one of the curves for us, so hopefully we can keep that going and keep things positive.”
Wimbledon are back in action at Plough Lane this Saturday and Davison will be looking to make the most of the week’s upcoming preparations.
He added: “It’s Crewe at home next and we’ve got a full week of training, so that will do us the world of good.
“There is no Tuesday game, so we can just really focus on committing to Saturday and how we want to play.”
