Omar Bugiel is hoping Jake Reeves can put last year’s League Two promotion winning success to good use at Wimbledon this year.
Reeves returned for a third spell with the Dons this summer after helping Stevenage secure second spot in May.
Earlier this week it was confirmed the 30-year-old midfielder would replace departing Alex Woodyard as skipper this season, with Alex Perace appointed vice captain.
And striker Bugiel, who shares a car with Reeves, believes his promotion exploits can only prove beneficial this time around at Plough Lane.
“I think he sets an example,” Bugiel told afcwimbledon.co.uk
“What he achieved last year with Stevenage is a real credit to him and them.
“They were united and everyone worked for each other.
“That’s why he’s been brought in here and been made captain.
“I want to touch on Alex Woodyard who was the captain last year. I got on with him well and I played against him a few times.
“It’s a shame that it didn’t work out here for him.
“Things change, it happens in football and with that people leave. I wish him well.”
Reeves admitted he was honoured to be handed the armband and hopes to live up to the standards of a former Dons skipper.
He said: “The gaffer pulled me last week to give me the news that I would be captain and that Pearcey would be vice.
“It was a really proud moment for me. I had a great captain when I was here previously, Barry Fuller.
“If I can be half as good as what he was like and learn from all of the other captains that I’ve had before, I think I’ll be doing well.”
Reeves added: “Being made captain for any club is a big honour as it means you’re seen as the leader of that particular badge.
“For me and this club with it being my third time – with what we achieved before and what we’ll hopefully achieve – makes it feel extra special.
“Hopefully I can give everything as a captain and everyone will be happy.”
