Jackson impressed by AFC Wimbledon youngster

Johnnie Jackson has praised AFC Wimbledon youngster Morgan Williams for his pre-season efforts so far.

The 18-year-old academy graduate made his first team debut as a second half substitute on the final day of last season at Grimsby Town.

Williams also caught the eye in midweek as the Dons comfortably brushed aside Met Police 4-0, notably in the first half when he won the ball in attacking areas.

And that was something which didn’t go unnoticed by the boss.

Jackson said: “I’ve been really impressed with him, especially that side it is something that he is good at.

“He has got that energy and the legs to go and press and he won the ball back in some really good areas for us.

“Obviously he is a talented boy who can get on the ball and play but the key thing, especially for these young lads, is that out of possession stuff that is required in league football.

“He has had a little taste of loans last year and came on at Grimsby, but he is getting a feel for it now around the first team so it is good.”

Wimbledon’s pre-season continues tomorrow against National League Woking in a game which kicks-off at midday, with the Dons chief anticipating a more vigorous encounter.

Jackson explained: “It will be a tough test. I said to the lads the tests are going to get tougher and (Met Police) was a certain test and we passed it, but there are tougher tests to come.

“That will be a proper game. Woking will be organised, they will be hard to beat and obviously a higher level opposition (than Met Police).

“No disrespect to them, but we should be running out winners like we did against Met Police.

“But Woking will be a tougher test and it will be interesting to see how we go.

“Again it is just be part of our prep, our fitness so I’m not going to put too much emphasis on the result.

“But it is about implementing what we are working on during the week and building that fitness up.”
