A Kel of a tough time: Forward relieved after scoring in consecutive Charlton Athletic games – almost two months apart

CHARLIE Kelman admitted it was tough being on the sidelines after scoring in consecutive games – almost two months apart.

Kelman scored the only goal to beat Oxford United at The Valley on Saturday to help the Addicks end a six-game winless run.

Forward Kelman didn’t score in fourteen games after moving from Queens Park Rangers in the summer. He bagged his first in a 1-1 draw at home to Swansea City on November 1 but a hamstring injury then sidelined him.

“It has been tough,” Kelman said on Charlton TV. “I just felt like I was getting myself going and then I got injured and it got taken away from me like that.

“It’s been a long seven weeks, I worked really hard for it and this is what happens.”

“I’m just buzzing to be back, it’s a really nice feeling.

“I was signed [to score goals] and I’ve been working very hard, and it paid off.”

“Charlie’s a wonderful finisher,” Addicks boss Nathan Jones said. “And credit to Tyreece Campbell, we were in the ascendency when he came on, we penned Oxford in, and we needed that bit of quality and we’ve missed that.”

Keenan Gough, 19, came on for his league debut after signing a new long-term deal last month.

Jones added: “We really like him, he’s a diligent kid. We trust him, it was a big test for him today and I had the utmost faith in him.”
