CHARLTON Athletic boss Nathan Jones said the Addicks were still in the market for more attacking quality after Millenic Alli became the fifth signing of the summer at The Valley.
Ireland international winger Alli, 26, has joined from League One Luton Town for an undisclosed fee and signed a four-year deal.
Alli follows the signings of Ivan Mesík, Billy Koumetio, Karlan Grant and Danny McNamara.
Alli spent the first part of his career in the non-League, with spells at Padiham, South Shields, Workington, Ashton United, Stockport County, Chorley and FC Halifax Town.
He signed for League One Exeter City in January 2024 and went on to score sixteen goals in 46 games for the Grecians.
Alli signed for the Hatters in a £1.5million deal in January 2025. He scored four goals in sixteen Championship games that season and then one in sixteen games in League One before a loan move back to the Championship with Portsmouth. He made 21 league appearances, scoring once, to help Pompey retain their second-tier status.
He has one international cap after making his Ireland debut in a 5-0 friendly win against Grenada in May.
“We’re delighted to get Milli over the line,” Jones said on Charlton’s website. “We want to evolve and to get better year in and year out. We’ve identified certain elements that we’ve needed, in terms of that player that can be one-v-one.
“He’s shown he can be a real potent threat at Championship level. We felt he was going to be a really good addition and we’ve worked hard to get that done. He provides options and competition for the players we’ve got and we think in that forward area we’ve got different one-v-one threats with TC [Tyreece Campbell], Karlan [Grant] and Rob Apter and we feel we’ve just added in that department.
“We’re still looking for even more quality but this, we feel, is a positive step in being able to evolve and be more potent. He’s hungry, he’s ambitious, he wants to do really well at this level and kick on, we were really impressed by how much he wanted to join Charlton.”
Alli told Charlton fans what they can expect from him.
“I’m happy to be here and can’t wait to get started, have a good time and show what I can do,” he said.
“The club’s goals are the exact same as mine, so we’re really trying to push this season and do the best we can. I can’t wait to play in front of the fans at The Valley and get them cheering and on their feet.
“You can expect pace, power, directness and goals – skills too.”
