Charlton Athletic have confirmed the signing of highly-rated defender Lloyd Jones.

The 27 year-old has signed a two-year deal at The Valley and will join officially upon the expiration of his contract at Cambridge United.

The centre-back came through the academy at Liverpool, having left his boyhood club Plymouth Argyle at the age of 16.

Jones has most recently impressed in League One with Cambridge but has vast experience in the EFL, having played for the likes of Luton Town, Blackpool, Swindon Town, Plymouth Argyle and Northampton to name a few.

“It feels amazing to be here. Charlton is such a big club with great history and I can’t wait to get going,” Jones told the club’s media.

Manager Dean Holden added: “Lloyd signs for us on the back of an excellent season at Cambridge United. He is a very good centre-half who plays with real authority, is confident on the ball and a threat from set pieces. He’s a good leader with experience of captaining sides.”

Jones will add experience and quality to the Addicks defence. Holden will hope that he can play a part in tightening up a side that conceded far too many goals across the 2022-23 campaign.
