CAPTAIN Millie Bright says Chelsea have an “unbelievable mentality” after they blew away Manchester City 3-0 in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, Sandy Baltimore, Nathalie Bjorn and Mayra Ramirez scored in an outstanding first-half display.
Sonia Bompastor’s side are on for a quadruple attempt again this season. They have won the League Cup, are into the FA Cup quarter-finals against Liverpool, are eight points clear in the Women’s Super League and now into the last four in Europe against their nemesis Barcelona.
The first leg against City is the only game Chelsea have lost in 31 games all season and even that is now an irrelevant result as they overturned the tie in the second leg.
“We were never in doubt. We had full confidence in ourselves. We could have had way more than three goals,” Bright said.
“[We have an] unbelievable mentality and desire to come back. It was a true Chelsea performance.
“We are a new team, we are on a new journey, we are in a new era. Bring it on.
“We had all the belief coming into this game that we were capable of turning it around,” Bright told BBC Sport.
“We were fully confident and [knew we] just needed to be ruthless. It was a true Chelsea performance. The fans were incredible.
“It’s all about the mentality and belief and everyone stepping up and delivering.”
Barcelona defeat Wolfsburg 10-2 on aggregate in their quarter-final. The Catalans beat Chelsea 4-0 in the 2021 final and knocked them out in the last four in 2023 and 2024 as they won the trophy.
Bompastor also lost to Barcelona as manager at Lyon.
“We’ll do everything possible to make that happen but, as you know, Barcelona have a lot of experience and talent in the squad,” Bompastor said.
“In football, everything is possible. I will bring all the confidence we need to go into those two games but first of all we want to enjoy this, because it was not easy.”
