New Crystal Palace boss no ‘David Copperfield’ – but boost as attacking magician returns to training

EBERECHI Eze is back in training for Crystal Palace but will be unavailable for Oliver Glasner’s first game in charge against Burnley at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Eze has missed Palace’s last three games since he scored twice in their 3-2 win at home to Sheffield United last month.

Palace’s other star attacker, Michael Olise is out with a hamstring injury.

Glasner will be in the dugout for the first time since he replaced Roy Hodgson this week, as he aims to turn around their fortunes after only two victories in their last fourteen Premier League games.

“I’m no magician, I am not David Copperfield” Glasner said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“The players are listening and are great characters. We have had more meetings than training sessions on the pitch, but the important thing is the game tomorrow and to get the three points at Selhurst Park.

“The short-term goal is to get ourselves – myself and my staff – known. It is important what we want to do in terms of playing football – how we can improve and finish the season with as many points as possible.

“We can see what can happen in the future but I am a guy who lives in the present, working with this squad and preparing them to play games.”

On discussions with the club’s chiefs, Glasner said: “When we talk tomorrow it will be different than when we talk in three weeks and when the season ends. We can talk a lot but that is not important now. It is important to work together to reach this vision and reach these goals. The sporting director gives me big confidence that we can reach our vision.

“When you have bad times you need support in those times. I am sure fans will support the team immediately in this next game. I really am convinced that they will be supporting us until the end of the season.”
