No Joach-ing around: Fulham agree deal to sign their former defender from Crystal Palace

Fulham have agreed a deal to sign Joachim Anderson from Crystal Palace for £30million.

The 28-year-old Denmark international was set to have a medical on Wednesday ahead of a return to Craven Cottage, according to The Athletic.

Andersen made 31 Premier League appearances and scored once on loan with the Cottagers from Lyon on 2020-21.

Former Twente and Sampdoria centre-back Andersen joined the Eagles for £15million in the summer of 2021 and has made 105 appearances in the top flight, scoring three times.

Fulham targeted Andersen this summer after Tosin Adarabioyo left for Chelsea and Tim Ream for Charlotte FC in MLS in the United States.

Andersen’s regular centre-back partner Marc Guehi has also been subject of multiple bids from Newcastle United. Eagles Chairman Steve Parish said recently he thought it was unlikely the club would sell both players this summer.

Parish said: “That’s an interesting one because I can’t imagine a situation where we would lose both of our centre-halves.

“Again, Joachim, he’s a special lad and very much at the heart of what we do. He’s like our quarterback at the heart of that back three, a sensational footballer.

“We have got to sit and think about what is the right thing to do, what the players want to do. If both of them are still here at the end of the window I wouldn’t be surprised.”

Palace have been linked with a move for 24-year-old centre-back Maxence Lacroix from boss Oliver Glasner’s former club Wolfsburg.
