DULWICH Hamlet missed a late penalty as they blew their chance to close the gap to the Isthmian League Premier Division play-off places to one point when they lost 2-1 to bottom side Kingstonian on Wednesday night.

Eddie Dsane and Nasim Regragui put the hosts 2-0 up at the break at Tooting & Mitcham United’s Imperial Fields in Morden.

Luke Wanadio replied in the 59th minute and had a glorious chance to equalise three minutes from time but fired his spot-kick over.

Kingstonian won for the first time in seven games to move off the foot of the table but they are still eleven points from safety.

It was only a second defeat in their last eleven games for Hakan Hayrettin’s side.

“I just want to apologise, really, because that’s not us, that’s not a reflection on how we’ve been doing things,” Hayrettin said on the Hamlet’s YouTube channel. “It’s not a reflection on anything, really, so I just want to apologise to the supporters that made the journey here. I think we let them down massively tonight.

“Complete different team, character, attitude from what it has been. I’ve been giving them a lot of praise, they’ve done ever so well but today, just…you can carry one or two [players] – you can’t carry eight or nine.

“I felt that’s what we did tonight – and I want to apologise to supporters.”

Dulwich are on the road again this Saturday to face Bognor Regis Town, who are one place and one point behind them in tenth.
