The bizarre reason Fulham couldn’t complete deadline-day deal – as Crystal Palace co-owner issues apology

THE bizarre reason Ernest Nuamah’s proposed move to Fulham from Lyon on deadline day broke down has been revealed.

The Cottagers had agreed a €21million (£16million) deal for the 20-year-old Ghana International.

The French outlet L’Equipe has reported that Nuamah was emotional on Friday and broke down in tears as he didn’t want to leave the Ligue 1 side.

It was reported that Nuamah successfully completed some of the medical but then went AWOL when the final parts were supposed to be carried out.

The medical wasn’t completed and Nuamah remains a Lyon player.

John Textor, the Crystal Palace co-owner who also majority-owns Lyon, has reportedly apologised for the events around the failed move.

Nuamah spent last season on loan at Lyon from RWD Molenbeek, the Belgian club which Textor owns. He joined from Norway’s Nordsjælland last summer before immediately being loaned to the French side.

Nuamah scored three goals in 33 appearances and joined on a permanent €28million deal this summer.

He has started both of Lyon’s games this season, a 3-0 defeat to Rennes and 2-0 defeat to Monaco.
