Former Millwall captain would like to see statue of Neil Harris – as Lions boss prepares for second emotional departure

FORMER Millwall captain Steve Morison believes the club should erect a statue of Neil Harris outside the ground.

Harris will step down as Lions boss after Saturday’s Championship clash against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

Legendary Lion Harris already has a mural on the way in to The Den.

The club’s record goal-scorer returned as manager in 2015 and led the side to promotion from League One two years later.

Millwall called for ‘Chopper’ again last February as a Championship relegation battle loomed, before Harris rescued them and then led the side into the play-off places this season.

But there has been some unease behind the scenes with Harris seemingly unhappy about transfer business.

Harris and Morison were on the side that won the League One play-off final in 2010. Seven years later, Harris was the boss as Morison scored the only goal against Bradford City in the play-off final to get Millwall back to the Championship.

“They should have a statue of him outside the ground,” Morison said. “Everything he’s done for that football club has been amazing.”

Morison added: “He was great for me and he is now if I want to pick the phone up.”
