JAMES McClean revealed which Championship fixture he was most looking forward to in 2025-26 – Millwall at The Den.
Former Ireland international McClean, 36, is back in the Championship after helping Wrexham to successive promotions from League Two and League One.
McClean, who is from Derry in Northern Ireland, is a villain for many football fans in the UK, as he chooses not to wear the poppy.
McClean has explained his stance on it.
On Instagram, he wrote: “The poppy represents for me an entire different meaning to what it does for others, am I offended by someone wearing a poppy? No absolutely not, what does offend me tho (sic), is having the poppy try be forced upon me.
“If the poppy’s sole purpose was to honour world war 1 and 2 then I would have no issue wearing it, but that’s not the case.”
Ahead of the release of the Championship fixtures, McClean was asked who he was looking forward to playing against.
He said: “You know where I love going because it’s hostile? Millwall away. Give me Millwall away.”
Wrexham start their campaign on Saturday, August 9 at Southampton.
Millwall travel to Norwich City the same day.
McClean doesn’t have to wait long for his trip to The Den, as the sides meet in the fourth round of fixtures on August 30*.
The return fixture is scheduled for February 7.
