NEIL Harris said it was a “privilege” to have Millwall’s Military Veteran Football Club at Calmont Road for a training session on Thursday.
The squad were put through their paces by Lions coach Adam Barrett before a game in which Millwall boss Harris also played.
The session marked the EFL’s Week of Action. Military Veterans were joined by personnel from 265 Battery, 106 Regiment Royal Artillery, overseen by corporal Gary Thompson.
The programme is a partnership with Millwall Community Trust and the ex-forces personnel play football on Thursday evenings between 6-7pm at The Lions Centre.
The Military Veteran’s captain Rob Biggs presented Harris with a signed Military Veteran Football Club shirt on behalf of the team.
“It’s a privilege for us to do this today,” Harris said. ‘You’ve seen the reaction on Remembrance Day and the reaction of the fans because of what you’ve done for us and what you continue to do for us is appreciated by the football club, by our fans as well.
“For us it was really humbling. So thank you – keep up the good work.”
Sean Daly, MCT CEO said: “Thank you to Neil Harris and Adam Barrett for giving up their time to support this initiative.
“The club are very supportive of our programmes across the local community and the programmes really developed with the support and work of John Scarborough as well as Military Veteran Football Club.”
