MILLWALL’S Championship rivals Portsmouth have signed former Lions goalkeeper Jordan Archer on a two-year contract.

Archer, 31, was available on a free transfer after leaving Queens Park Rangers this summer.

Archer joined Millwall on a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2015 and made 166 appearances in all competitions for the Lions.

He played in two League One play-off finals, making a crucial save and keeping a clean sheet as Millwall defeated Bradford City 1-0 at Wembley in 2017.

Archer left Millwall in 2019 and has mostly been a back-up since. He has made only 15 league starts in five years, in spells with Oxford United, Fulham, Motherwell, Middlesbrough and the R’s.

“Jordan brings a wealth of experience and knows what it takes to compete at this level of the game,” Pompey boss John Mousinho said on the club’s website.

“I had the pleasure of playing alongside him a few years ago when he came to Oxford for a brief spell.

“So I know that he’s a brilliant character and a great professional to have around the dressing room, as well as being an excellent goalkeeper.

“It bolsters the options we already have in that department and we’re happy to have got another signing in for the start of pre-season.”

Archer could be set for a quick Millwall reunion as the sides play each other in the first round of the EFL Cup at Fratton Park in the first week of the season in August.
