LEEDS United defender Charlie Cresswell is backing Millwall for another tilt at the play-offs after being part of the Lions squad that went so close last season.
Cresswell, 20, spent the 2022-23 season on loan at The Den, making 30 appearances and scoring four times.
England under-21 international Cresswell is set to face the Lions in the next campaign after Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League on the final day.
And he knows all about the challenge the Whites will face, particularly in SE16.
“It was a shame we couldn’t make the play-offs because we were in there all season, but it’s something that I can take into my future and my experience going forward,” Cresswell said on international duty.
“Everyone says Millwall is a horrible place to go. The Championship looks tough this year. I’m sure not many teams will want to go to Millwall, and if they keep that attitude and keep performing the way they did last season, I’m sure they can always go one ahead.
“But the Championship is so unpredictable, you don’t know what’s going to happen. I wish them all the best, and who knows?”
Cresswell is currently with his England team-mates in Georgia ahead of their first game of the European Championships against Czech Republic on Thursday.
He made Lee Carsley’s squad on the back of an impressive campaign.
“I loved every minute of my time at Millwall”, Cresswell said. “The fans, players and staff really made my time there. I wouldn’t change a second of it. There were ups and downs, but I was glad to come to the end of the season on such a high, individually.”
