MILLWALL will assess each player individually to decide if they need extra time off as the bulk of the squad return to pre-season training today.
George Saville, Tom Bradshaw and Kevin Nisbet played for Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland respectively in their Euro 2024 qualifiers this month.
Romain Esse started three games for England under-21s at their end-of-season tournament in Portugal this month.
Aidomo Emakhu scored on his Ireland under-21 debut against Kuwait before the game was abandoned after an allegation of racist abuse by the opposition towards an Irish substitute.
Danny McNamara was also part of an Ireland senior training camp in Bristol.
The players and staff return to Calmont Road this Wednesday for the start of pre-season preparations.
“We’ll assess that along the way,” Rowett said when asked about those players’ return dates. “The likes of Romain and Aidomo didn’t play huge amounts of minutes towards the end of the season so it’s less of a concern.
“We’ll always look at have they had the chance to get away with their families? Have they had a chance to just switch off mentally?
“That’s always important when you’ve got a long season ahead. We’ll assess those players as we will do with the other internationals.”
Millwall discovered their Championship fixture schedule last week, with some tough-looking runs included.
But Rowett explained why he isn’t reading into that.
He said: “You always look at the fixtures, you look at runs of games. But we spoke about it before, last year we picked up more points in some of the tough runs than in some of the easier-looking runs on paper.”
